The Home Programme is a service that the school offers to assist learners who are not yet attending a school. We see the learners for one hour sessions in which we learn new skills through play. We use resources from our Toy Library to teach different skills. The level of teaching is based on the level of functioning of each individual child. After the session, the toys/resources can be taken home in order for parents to continue to practice these skills at home.
It is the parent’s responsibility to ensure that the toys come back with the next scheduled session in the same condition in which they have received them. It is also the parents responsibility to replace any broken or missing parts.
Please note: Your child will not be ensured to be placed at Cheré Botha School because they are attending the Home Programme. The Home Programme is a service that the school offers to help our community.
Home Programme sessions are R330 per hour. For enquiries or bookings please contact the school.
We have our own dedicated school nurse at Cheré Botha. Please inform the class teacher and school nurse if your child is on any medication or if your child has any allergies. Please send chronic medication monthly. No over the counter medication will be administered.
You can contact the school on cbspsych@gmail.com and cbstherapist@gmail.com to enquire whether your child is on our database. In your enquiry please include your child’s full name, date of birth and residential address.
Please note: We can only confirm whether or not your child is on the database. We cannot confirm whether they are on the databases of other WCED LSEN schools. You would have to contact the other schools directly to enquire. Each LSEN School covers a specific catchment area.
It is not possible to provide a specific timeline for when your child will be invited for a possible assessment period. You will be contacted for a screening / observation period for your child when we are able to evaluate him/her. You must therefore please keep your contact details up to date. You can email cbstherapist@gmail.com to update your contact details.
Following your child’s evaluation period the outcome will be presented at the WCED Sifting and Placement meeting which are set on specific dates by the WCED. It is only after the school has been notified of the outcome of the meeting that you will be contacted regarding the outcome of the evaluation period.
If the programme offered at the school is found to be a suitable fit for your child, placement is still dependent on place available in the school. Your child will have to wait for a space to be available so that he/she can be admitted.
Chere Botha School is a school for learners who require a high level of educational support and who have a diagnosis of a moderate to severe Intellectual Disability OR a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder with an accompanying intellectual impairment. We enroll learners from the ages of 7 to 18 years. Our tuition is based on the Differentiated CAPS (Curriculum Assessment Policy Statements) which goes up to an adapted Grade 5 level. Due to their barriers to learning our learners will not receive a matric certificate at the end of their schooling at Chere Botha School. The Senior- and Vocational Phase learners participate in a program which provides them with practical skills and exposure.
At Chere Botha School the Multi-disciplinary Team does not provide regular individual therapy like private therapists do. Group sessions are provided based on the areas of need as determined by the therapy team.
